Event Server – Off-Premise Catering & Service Team

What the Role Involves

Event Servers at Urban Affairs NYC are responsible for executing service with precision, efficiency, and professionalism across a variety of off-premise events. From intimate dinner parties in private homes to large-scale corporate galas, your job is to help the event run smoothly while making guests feel cared for. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be setting tables, passing hors d’oeuvres, managing buffet stations, and clearing service areas — all while staying in sync with the event captain, chef, and front-of-house team.

You’ll represent our brand directly to guests, so strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a calm, polished presence are essential. The work environment changes from one day to the next — rooftops, museums, lofts, raw spaces — and each setup has its own rhythm. You need to adapt fast, stay organized, and anticipate needs before they’re asked. This role combines logistics, physical movement, and service etiquette into one fast-paced job that rewards sharp instincts and consistent performance.

What We’re Looking For

We want servers who treat each event like a performance — and prepare for it accordingly. You should show up early, in proper uniform, with the tools you need and the mindset to deliver your best. Experience in catering or hospitality is preferred, but just as important is how you carry yourself. Are you responsive? Do you know how to work quietly but quickly? Can you read the room and make small adjustments without being told?

Our best team members are those who support each other, take initiative, and move with intention. We rely on people who can keep service areas clean, communicate clearly under pressure, and reset quickly when timelines shift. You should be confident in your ability to bus, pass, pour, and plate — and know when to stay visible and when to blend into the background. If you’ve worked in fine dining, events, or catering, you know how important timing and discretion are. That’s what we expect on every job.

What It Takes to Succeed

You should be fluent in English and able to follow written and verbal instructions without supervision. This role requires standing and walking for 8–10 hours, lifting and carrying 30+ pounds, and working nights, weekends, and holidays. Familiarity with service protocols — from banquet rounds to tray passing — is expected. A basic knowledge of food and beverage is helpful, especially in cocktail settings or multi-course meals. Flexibility is key, as no two shifts look the same.
