Event Captain
Urban Affair NYC is seeking an experienced and service-driven Event Captain to lead the on-site execution of off-premise catering events. This key role partners with Event Managers to ensure every detail of an event meets client expectations and aligns with company protocols. The Event Captain manages staffing, rentals, and on-site logistics while maintaining clear communication with all departments to ensure smooth and memorable guest experiences.

- Work closely with Event Managers to execute seamless events day-to-day
- Support the planning process by partnering with Sales, Operations, and Culinary teams
- Build and nurture client relationships through consistent service excellence
Event Responsibilities
- Communicate with clients to understand event goals, vision, and expectations
- Partner with the onsite Events Team to deliver one-of-a-kind off-premise experiences
- Maintain service standards and hospitality best practices across all event formats
- Act as lead onsite, overseeing all aspects of execution and guest experience
- Design and manage buffet setups for both form and function
- Train and mentor servers, bartenders, and support staff
- Lead with professionalism, motivating team members to exceed expectations
- Follow all standard operating procedures for off-premise events
- Oversee captain responsibilities including pre-shift briefings, inventory, post-event notes, and equipment coordination
Essential Functions
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension)
- Able to follow both verbal and written instructions with clarity
- Comfortable with basic math for service needs and tracking
- Strong team player who can also work independently when needed
- Physically capable of lifting 30 pounds regularly
- Can stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for 8–10 hour shifts
- Highly organized with a structured approach to task management
- Effective communicator and responsive to direction
- Inspires morale, creativity, and professionalism among peers
- Thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
- Upholds all company policies and complies with local/state regulations
Experience & Qualifications
- 1+ year of experience as an Event Captain or similar role in catering or hospitality
- Thorough understanding of catering service and operations
- Proficient in all event service roles: bussing, tray-passing, table service, expediting, bartending, and more
- Strong knowledge of off-premise catering logistics and timelines
- Familiarity with various cuisines and beverage categories, including wine, beer, and spirits
